Food Addiction Research and Insights Are Focus of First Symposium at American College of Nutrition’s Annual Conference

Ocotber 14, 2014, Clearwater, FL—With diabetes and obesity reaching epidemic levels, the scientific community is exploring the many factors that may be contributing to this global problem. One aspect that is gaining interest within the research community is food addiction. The latest research findings and clinical insights are the focus of the first symposium of the 55th Annual Conference of the American College of Nutrition (ACN), which is being held October 15-18, 2014, at the Marriott Rivercenter in San Antonio, Texas. The symposium is scheduled from 2-5 p.m.

Dr. Ralph A. DeFronzo, UTHSC Researcher To Receive American College of Nutrition’s Award

CLEARWATER, FL —Ralph A. DeFronzo, M.D., of The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, will be given the American College of Nutrition (ACN) Award at the organization’s 55th Annual Conference to be held in San Antonio from October 15-18, 2014. This award recognizes the career accomplishments of senior scientists in the field of nutrition and acknowledges distinguished achievements and contributions to the field. The award dates back more than 30 years and includes some of the most outstanding nutritionists of the 20th century and beyond.

Passing of Mary Enig, PhD

We are saddened to announce the passing of Mary Enig, PhD on September 8. Mary was a former board member and Fellow of the American College of Nutrition.

Mary was a nutritionist and an early researcher of trans fats. She wrote Know Your Fats: The Complete Primer for Understanding the Nutrition of Fats, Oils and Cholesterol, co-authored Nourishing Traditions: The Cookbook that Challenges Politically Correct Nutrition and the Diet Dictocrats, and Eat Fat, Lose Fat: The Healthy Alternative to Trans Fats.
