The Department of Health and Exercise Science provides a rigorous and enlightening intellectual environment for the professional development, achievement and distinction of leaders in Health Promotion and Fitness Management, Nutrition, Human Performance in Clinical Settings, Athletic Training, Community Health, and Health and Physical Education. The Department has earned national accreditation when available for each of its programs. In 2015, the Department launched a new academic program in nutrition offering a B.S. in Nutrition, with specialization in either Exercise Science or Dietetics. Students who successfully complete the B.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics are expected to also complete a fifth year of graduate work leading to an M.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics. The master’s program is a Coordinated Program designed to prepare students for the Registered Dietitian credential.

The Department of Health and Exercise Science is seeking to hire TWO qualified individuals for the Nutrition program. One is at the assistant/associate professor level (commensurate with experience); the other is at the assistant professor level. One of the successful candidates will serve as the Director of the Coordinated Program in Dietetics (CPD), as well as teach nutrition courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. This successful candidate will lead the continuing ACEND accreditation effort for the M.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics degree. The accreditation effort was started in 2015 and has received an initial successful review. The other successful candidate will serve as the clinical coordinator for the 1,200-hour Supervised Practice component of the curriculum, and will also teach nutrition courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. The director/clinical coordinator service roles are not specific to either of the positions, but will be assigned based on expertise and experience.

The successful candidates will also have the opportunity for collaborative multidisciplinary projects with other departments in the sciences, engineering, and emerging programs of medical education and research at Rowan University including schools of allopathic ( and osteopathic ( medicine.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. from an accredited institution of higher education in Nutrition or a related field. The successful applicant who will serve as the CPD Director must also have a current Registered Dietitian certification.

Candidates are expected to have a strong record of research and be able to successfully compete for external funding. Evidence of excellence in teaching and prior experience teaching in and coordinating a nutrition degree program at the university level is desired.

Successful candidates will have the ability to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in the areas of Medical Nutrition Therapy, Food Science, Quantity Food Production, Management of Food and Nutrition Services, Macronutrients, Micronutrients, Public Health Nutrition, and Nutrition and Epidemiology, and to serve as the Director of the program and/or the Coordinator of the Dietetics Supervised Practice.
